How SmartViser and Anritsu are Shaping the Future of 5G with End-to-End Network Solutions
Key Takeaways from the EUWENA Private Network Event - 3rd October 2024
On October 3rd, 2024, EUWENA (European Users Wireless Enterprise Network Association) organized a landmark event that brought together industry leaders, technology experts, and key stakeholders from across Europe to discuss the evolving landscape of 4G and 5G private networks. This one-day virtual event featured insightful presentations and roundtable discussions focused on spectrum management, enterprise-specific solutions, network integration, and real-world use cases in industries such as energy, ports, airports, mining, and logistics.
Experts from several organizations shared the latest innovations, challenges, and success stories surrounding private mobile networks. The event highlighted how these networks are transforming industries, offering enhanced flexibility, data security, and operational efficiency.
Below are some of the key takeaways from this insightful event.
1. Private Network Spectrum Management in Europe
The first session of the day focused on the Network spectrum management. Didier Chauveau from ANFR highlighted one of the critical challenges in spectrum management across Europe, especially with the growing interest in private networks. The focus was on the future harmonization of the 3.8-4.2 GHz band, which is poised to become crucial for low- and medium-power high-speed mobile local area networks (WBB LMP). This spectrum harmonization will play a vital role in ensuring broader availability and smoother deployment of private networks across Europe.
2. Enterprise-Specific Solutions and Their Impact
The event saw exciting presentations on the practicality and readiness of private network solutions for industries. Nicolas di Pietro from Athonet presented compelling use cases, including a 5G deployment in Estonia for modular wooden house construction, showcasing the benefits of worker safety, productivity, and data security. The modular, flexible nature of private 5G networks enables a wide array of industry applications, offering enterprises enhanced creativity in their network configurations.
3. The Power of Network Integration
Citymesh and Transatel presented innovative approaches to hybrid private-public network integration. Citymesh’s hybrid network concept, where private networks can be shared with public networks via SIM cards containing both public and private profiles, showed the flexibility required for modern enterprises. Meanwhile, Transatel explored SIM-based solutions that further simplify the deployment of standalone private networks, providing multiple frequency deployment options.
4. Complexity of Network Monitoring & Assurance: SmartViser & Anritsu's Strategic Partnership
One of our highlights was the strategic partnership between SmartViser and Anritsu, which was officially announced ahead of the event.
This collaboration revolutionizes the testing, monitoring, and assurance of both mobile and private networks, offering an end-to-end solution that integrates pre-deployment testing with real-time, continuous network assurance. By combining SmartViser’s automated network testing with Anritsu’s real-time monitoring and AI-driven anomaly detection, Communication Service Providers (CSPs) and enterprises can gain unmatched visibility into their network performance.
During the roundtable, both companies emphasised the importance of a holistic network solution that covers all layers of the network, from user and device experience to overall network health and performance at every stage of the rollout. This integration enables proactive issue identification and faster resolution, minimizing downtime while ensuring optimal network performance.
Key Benefits of the SmartViser-Anritsu Partnership:
Holistic Network Assurance: Operators gain comprehensive network visibility from pre-deployment testing to live performance.
Proactive Monitoring: AI-driven anomaly detection helps operators identify and resolve issues before they impact users.
Optimized Private Networks: Industries benefit from improved reliability, uptime, and network efficiency.
Automation and Intelligence: The partnership reduces manual intervention, optimizing network performance with real-time insights.
5. Private Networks in Ports and Airports
The event also shed light on how private networks are transforming industries like ports and airports. Jeffrey van Noortwijk (Port of Rotterdam) and Willem Blom (Royal Schiphol Group) highlighted the extensive deployment of private networks in European mainports, particularly in airports and seaports. Rory o'Toole (Druid Software) and Boris Madeleine (Obvios) presented case studies from Dallas Fort Worth Airport, Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport, and SNCF railways demonstrated the role of private networks in delivering reliable, high-throughput, and mission-critical services for logistics and transport.
Koen Mioulet EUWENA co-founder and board member emphasised in this session that airports is the biggest cluster of private Mobile Networks deployed with around 889 private networks.

6. Real-World Use Cases in Mining and Energy
The final session of the day delved into use cases from industries such as energy, mining, and factories. Eric L'Heureux from Ambra showcased successful private LTE/5G deployments in over 10 countries, emphasizing the benefits of real-time asset tracking, remote operations, and automation in underground mines. These use cases demonstrate how private networks are revolutionizing industries that require mission-critical services and continuous communication.
The EUWENA event provided an invaluable platform for knowledge sharing. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore how private networks are shaping the future of industries around the globe. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Anritsu and playing a pivotal role in delivering robust, end-to-end network solutions for our customers.
Once again, a big thank you to EUWENA for organizing this important event and to our partners for their continued support in driving innovation in the private network space.
